ABC Race

Little Wild Man
has been working his way through
(which we both L-O-V-E!)...

(Read my review on the
All About Reading Pre-Reading Program HERE
and All About Reading Level 1 HERE)

(creator of the program)
always adds fun little games and worksheets
into the lessons,
I was inspired to add a little more fun into
my son's...
...Sound Card review.

**************************************

Each All About Reading lesson begins with
reviewing previously learned concepts.

To "spice up" my active little learner's...
...Sound Card review,
I decided to get him up an moving.

First...
...I dictated the sound aloud to Little Wild Man.

Then...
...he tried to pick out the letter that made that sound
out of our ABC door magnets.
He then would take the correct letter...
...and stick it to the correct spot on our

Fun learning for a fun boy!

Check Out Little Wild Man on TV!!!

A few weeks ago,
Little Wild Man and I had the pleasure of reviewing the
"All About Reading" program.

(Click HERE to read more about this
WONDERFUL program...)

Well, guess what?

Marie Rippel,
the creator of "All About Reading,"
recently was featured on
Lifetime TV's
"The Balancing Act"...

...and they used some of Little Wild Man's pictures
in the piece!

(Yes, I know I am biased,
but I don't know a cuter
5 year old boy in the world...)

stART: "Olive the Other Reindeer" by J.otto Seibold and Vivian Walsh

OK, before I write about what we did today with
Advent/stART,
I need to introduce you to...
...the three special dogs in our lives.

(I think y'all have figured out by now that I do not
use our real names on my blog,
but I am not as worried about protecting
my precious pups' anonymity,
so the names I am listing ARE their REAL names.)

Please meet...
...Snuggles...
...Lady...
...and, our newest addition, Schroeder.

(We have taken him in for my brother,
which thrills my kiddos,
because now they each feel like they have
their OWN dog.
I will NEVER have a clean house again...
*SIGH*)

************************************************

Now that you have met our four-legged friends,
you will understand why we just adore the story of...
...Olive, the Other Reindeer
so much.

After I read the story to the kiddos,
we enjoyed some
Reindeer Chow
for a bedtime snack...

It's SUCH an easy recipe...
Take 6 cups of Crispix-type cereal and put it in a bowl.
Melt 1 cup of peanut butter
and 12 oz of chocolate chips together
on the stove using low heat.
Pour the slightly cooled pb-chocolate sauce
over the cereal and stir it lightly to coat.

Wait 5-10 minutes and then...
...put about one cup of powdered sugar on the cereal.

Shake the cereal in a bag
(or a bowl with a lid like I did)
until the cereal is coated with powdered sugar.
Stash some of the treat away in your
Christmas Cookie Jar...
...and enjoy the rest before bedtime.
Our ever-present four-legged pals
wanted some too...
...but we made sure
to keep it away from them.

(Chocolate + Dogs = No Good!!!)
Reindeer Chow gets us all waggin' our tales...

2010 Gratitude Challenge Day Nine

I am thankful for
October 25th, 2010.

This is the day...
...Baby Girl read her first book!

She's been struggling a bit with reading,
so to see...
...this smile on her face is just priceless...

Monday

In Love With Letters: "C" is so "C"ool!

Letter C lends itself to many fun activities-
here are a few we tried...

First of all,
Little Wild Man continues to work in
his alphabet notebook......by doing several of the activities...
...found HERE.

*******************************************

Since
"C" is for Cat,
we read...

Little Wild Man used
THIS "C is for Cat" page
and foam blocks to practice
fine motor skills.

After reading Cookie's Week...
...he practiced putting the days of the week
in order using THESE cards.
Math was nothing to hiss about, since we used...
...THESE count and clip cards.

****************************************************

"C" is also for Clifford,
so we read...
...all of these Clifford books.
We spent extra time in the Alphabet book...
...on the letter C page, of course!
(Also, Jungle Girl was kind enough to help me out
and read a couple of the Clifford stories
to her siblings while I got lunch ready that day-
so sweet!)
We are really into Memory games as of late,
so I created a Clifford one
using THIS card template.
The kiddos had to match different colored paw prints
that I made with bingo and Dot-a-Dot markers.

I also challenged them to create a dog house
using......these building sticks I picked up
from who knows where!

Their designs were rather cozy for the
Pet Chop Animal Puppies...

**************************************************

Finally,
C is for Caterpillar,
so we read...

All the following activities are from
Confessions of a Homeschooler-
please head on over there to check out ALL
of her great Alphabet printables,
like...
...graphing...
...counting...
...gaming...
...and story re-telling!
This hungry caterpillar
knows that
"C" is so "C"ool!
