Timberdoodle Review: A Young Scholar's Guide to Composers

I am a singer.
So- I love music.
However, I have never truly had the opportunity
to fully explore different
classical composers before,
so the idea of teaching a subject like this
to my kiddos is kinda daunting.

Therefore, when Timberdoodle gave me the
opportunity to review...
by
Melissa E. Craig and Maggie S. Hogan
from
Bright Ideas Press,
I was super-excited!

 *******************************************

This program includes:

*32 Weekly Lessons
(That's a full year of music curriculum!)

*26 Bios of Famous Composers
(They are not boring-
promise!)

*6 Eras of Music Explained
(If it ain't "baroque," don't fix it!)

*Easy-to-Use Comparative Timeline
(I like the little "tombstones" that they include
on the timeline to signify a composer's death-
is that a little morbid?)

*Easy-to-Use Maps
(Haven't you every wondered if Vivaldi
and Bach could have been neighbors? :0)

*Composer Info Cards and Game
(Watch out UNO!)

*Note-Taking Pages
(Yes, it is fill in the blanks...)

*Quizzes
(Well, we need to see if you've been
paying attention!)

*Answer Keys
(In case us parents weren't paying as
close of attention...*AHEM*)

*Listening Suggestions
(I mean, what is a composer study
without MUSIC?)

*Intricate Coloring Pages
(A little something to work on while
listening to the classics...)

*Resource Books
(For when you are inspired
to learn more about a
composer or his music.)

***********************************************

A typical section is set up into 3-5 sessions,
letting you focus on one composer
for a week.

I love, love, LOVE that each composer lesson
is tied to a timeline that also focuses on the different
musical eras,
and that you are emcouraged to listen to the same
musical selection all week.

HOWEVER, my kiddos are still a tad young
to do this study independently,
so I will definately be using this curriculum
at a snail's pace.

I would recommend this study for kiddos anywhere
from 5th-9th grade,
and it can of course be adapted and used
with age groups both above and below
this recommendation.

Timberdoodle Review: A Kid's Guide to Drawing the Presidents of the United States

Do you have a little artist in your family?
Are you looking for a way to engage this kiddo
    in history,
using his/her talent and passion for art?

Then HURRY over to Timberdoodle and check out...
...A Kid's Guide to Drawing the Presidents of the USA
    series.

With the use of 42 books,
American History is covered through all of the Presidents,
from George Washington to George W. Bush.

    ***********************************************

    We received
How to Draw the Life and Times of Andrew Johnson
    to review,
    which is wonderful,
since he is a President from our native
Tennessee. Each section contains well-written, historical information...
    ...and a well-illustrated drawing lesson
on something that related to the history lesson.

    **********************************************

Now, my Jungle Girl is a recent 3rd grade "graduate"
    and a MAJOR horse fanatic,
    so she chose to focus...
...on learning to draw Andrew Johnson......as a Brigadier General.

    ***********************************************

With the use of the easy
    step-by-step instructions....
...she was able to create her own version...
    ...of the Brigadier General.

    ************************************************

These books can be adapted for several ages,
though the drawings really seem suited for
    3rd graders and up.

    HOWEVER...
    ...my Preschooler...
...and my 1st grader both wanted to
    get in on the fun,
just like their older sister did,
making these books a great resource
    for family learning.

    ****************************************

Now, these books are no longer going to be published,
    so Timberdoodle is offering a
FANTASTIC deal on the entire set right now.

    Normally,
all 42, library bound, colorfully illustrated books,
    would sell for $1, 060.50.

They are now on sale for
    ONLY $195.00!!!!!

    (That's a savings of $865.50!!!)

    However,
    once the books are gone,
    they are GONE,
so make sure to check out this fantastic deal
    by clicking HERE.
