Bible Alive! Tuesday: Salty Salt

Making the Bible come alive can be as simple as
having a conversation with your kiddos...

Take the following conversation the kiddos and I
had a few breakfasts ago...

**********************************************

I made eggs for breakfast,
and being the little saltaholics that my kiddos are,
Baby Girl accidentally poured......too much salt onto her eggs.

(This resulted in some eggs that were sent to the
dogs' bowl, which they thoroughly enjoyed,
so I wasn't TOO upset by the wasted breakfast.)

I told the kiddos that their zealous use of salt
reminded me of something Jesus talked about once...

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness,
how can it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything,
except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."
(Matthew 5:13)

As much as Baby Girl didn't enjoy the taste of
too much salt on her eggs,
it is still better for salt to have its saltiness
than be bland.

Jesus often used everyday objects, like salt,
to make his point.

What WAS his point?

Jesus wants those of us that love God
to be out there in the world,
SHOWING his love to others,
and not letting our talents go to waste,
like the bland salt.

******************************************

As I have been thinking about Baby Girl's eggs,
I wondered if there is such a think as being
TOO salty.

Perhaps.

Perhaps a person can be TOO excited about Jesus
that it freaks others out-
at first...

But wouldn't it be better to be thought of as a
"Jesus Freak"
instead of others not even KNOWING
of your relationship with Christ?

(Check out one of my favorite tunes as a teen-
"Jesus Freak" by DC TALK-
and get inspired to be salty salt...)
