Bible Alive! Tuesday: Get Closer Countdown

"For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

-Hebrews 4:12

***********************************************

In our devotions this week,
we discussed coming closer to God.

One story we read was about Simeon and Anna,
and how they had the honor of meeting Jesus
before they died.
(Luke 2: 21-38)

But not without waiting MANY YEARS,
and spending time worshiping
the one true God through it all.

******************************************

As a reminder to our family
that you can grow closer to God as you wait,
we created a countdown to Halloween.

(Yup, we celebrate Halloween in our house,
but this activity could be so easily adapted
for any exciting event that is coming up.)

First, the kiddos used the paper cutter
to create strips out of orange and black
construction paper.
Next, the strips were weaved...
...and stapled together to create a
paper chain,
with one ring for each day left until
Halloween.
Finally, the kiddos created all kinds
of Halloween pictures......to decorate the top of the countdown.
I taped the pictures and paper chain next to our
Calendar Time area.
The kiddos are now ready to tear off a ring
each day leading to Halloween.

Hopefully, each ring will remind them
of Simeon and Anna,
who drew closer to God each day
as they waited on him to send a Savior.

Now, what have y'all been up to this week?

  1. I'm pretty sure I would not have thought of waiting for Halloween as an analogy of waiting for Christ :) But, I can see how it works - and they do look excited!
