My City Ain't New York, But That's OK By Me...

Today my friend and I took our kiddos on an
adventure downtown...
We began our journey at the
Historic Tennessee Theater,
where we enjoyed listening to...
...the Mighty Wulrlitzer Pipe Organ!

The first Monday of every month,
the theater opens its doors for a free organ concert
during lunch hour.

The organ played some Rogers and Hammerstein
favorites...
Local talent presented some country classics...
Summer sing alongs...
...and hymns.

It was lovely.

But the kiddos favorite part?
The theater's fancy architecture!

The theater was recently restored to its original
1928 glory...

The kiddos were taken with the accessories...
...changing-light ceiling...
...and light fixtures.

After making it through the concert,
we went and enjoyed Italian ices...
Apparently, we all got brain freezes...
That, and all the sugar consumed...
...led us all...
...to sheer silliness!

(WOW- Look like a chimp who lost her banana...)

********************************************

During the final phase of our downtown adventure,
we headed to one of the many fountains
for the kiddos to play in....

(This is my neighborhood partner in crime,
who is LEAVING ME in about three weeks-
I am not looking forward to that day...)

(This is Little Wild Man's "Grandpa" impression...
Makes me laugh every time!)
After the kiddos toweled off...
...we took a brief gander at the surrounding
modern art pieces
which are currently on display throughout down town...

This crazy "desk lamp" one was a fav...
It was great to climb on...
...AND it had this really cool mirror
inside,
so you could see yourself reflected when
you looked inside...

(Really, I'm in there-
you may have to click on the photo to see...)

My city ain't New York,
but that's OK by me!

  1. Our kids do the "grandpa" thing, too. Guess where they learned it? My wonderful husband.

  2. @ Ellen:

My kiddos came up with it on their own...perhaps from observing my dad's shorts sometimes..*ahem*...
