Kid-Friendly "Stained Glass" Crosses

For the 1st grade Sunday School lesson today,
the kiddos and I discussed what it means to be a light
for Jesus.

"In the same way,
let your light shine before men,
that they may see your good deeds
and praise your Fahter in heaven."
-Matthew 5:15

I wanted the kiddos to take home a reminder
of how they can be a light for Jesus,
so we made
"Stained-Glass" Crosses.

Materials that we used for activity included:

Colorful tissue paper
Clear contact paper
Permanent marker
Cross template
Scissors
Hole punch
Yarn

First, cut several pieces of the tissue paper
into small squares.

Second, create a cross template out of clip art.

Third, trace the template onto
a section of the clear contact paper.

Take the paper off of the contact paper,
and lay it sticky side up onto the table.
Cover the cross with pieces of the tissue paper squares.

Get another piece of contact paper and
cut it to the same size
as the tissue paper covered cross piece.

Put the sticky sides
of the two sheets of contact paper together,
and smooth out any air bubbles.

Cut out the cross shape
and punch a hole in the top
for a piece of yarn to go through.

You now have a reminder to put in your window
that lets the shine through,
just like we are to reflect Jesus' light in our lives!
