Kids in the Kitchen: Snowmen on a Stick

Today, for a little mid-afternoon pick-me-up,
the kiddos and I made
"Snowmen on a Stick."

I have seen a version of these at the
Family Fun website,
but I modified the recipe so we could
use what we had in our pantry.

The ingredient I gathered for our treat were:
Pretzel rods
White chocolate bark coating
Fruit-by-the-Foot
Mini chocolate chips

Whenever cooking with children,
I have DEFINITELY found that preparation is key!

Before involving the kiddos,
I put some of the bark coating in a microwavable bowl...
and cut it up into smaller chunks
so it would melt quickly in the microwave.
Next, I laid out sections of the Fruit-by-the-Foot
on some wax paper.

Then I called in the troops!
Jungle Girl helped melt the bark in the microwave...
and she also stirred it until it was smooth.
Next, each of the kiddos took turns spreading
melted white chocolate over half of a pretzel rod,
using a spatula.
(Truthfully, Jungle Girl did most of the work.
Baby Girl and Little Wild Man each made
one, and then went into the homeschooling room,
where they proceeded to jump around the room on pillows.)
After the rods were coated,
the kiddos would place them
on sections of Fruit-by-the-Foot
and wrap them around the rods,
making the snowmen's scarves.
Add a couple of chocolate chips
for eyes...
and read "Frosty the Snowman"
while the white chocolate hardens.

Then, it's time to chow down!



This snack is kid tested and mother approved!

  4. Looks a lot of fun thought the recipe is full of things that I don't know what they are (the US and the US really are two countries divided by a language!). Is bark coating a type of chocolate?

    Yes, bark coating is really blocks of chocolate. You could also do this recipe with white chocolate chips with a tad of vegetable shortening added.

    Ya know, it's funny to me that we even call white chocolate "chocolate," because it has NO cocoa in it what so ever! :0)
