stART: "A Winter Day" by Douglas Florian

For stART this week,
we are still focusing on our snow theme,
so I read the kiddos
"A Winter Day" by Douglas Florian.

Here is the page of the book
in which the kids make a snowman.

So, we had to make our own kind of snowman.

I also wanted to incorporate
some math and fine motor skills work into this activity,
and I think we managed that rather nicely.

For fine motor skills, I had the kiddos color THIS snowman page.

(Little Wild Man didn't want to participate at first, scribbling in a hurry,
so I gave him another sheet. He did much better.
I normally AM NOT a stickler for "staying in the lines,"
but we were practicing fine motor skills, which he is FULLY capable of doing!)

After the coloring was complete, the kiddos glued button noses on their snowmen...

and created a pattern with pom poms on their scarves (sneaky math!).

Later, I cut out the snowmen
and slapped a popcicle stick on the back
to make puppets for the kiddos.

(Why, I was also able to get some creative play out
of this activity too!)
Side Note:
When I pulled out the book to read it,
I found I had stuffed this cartoon clipping in the pages.
