Showin' Our Feathered Friends Some Lovin'

As Valentine's Day approaches,
the kiddos and I are going to be
"showin' some lovin'"
to all the important friends in our lives.

Ever since the addition of a new bird feeder
in our backyard,
we have become avid lunch hour bird watchers.

The latest addition to all the
chickadees, cardinals, and finches
that visit the feeder is none other then a
Woodpecker!

(Isn't he handsome?)

So, naturally, the first set of friends
we decided to "show some lovin'" to
are our feathered ones!

We created Pine Cone Birdfeeders
for our birdy friends.

I have seen this done on a million different sites,
and here's our take on the activity.

First, we gathered all out supplies:

Pine Cone Ornaments (from the Dollar Store)
Peanut Butter
Bird Seed
Butter Knives
Tray
Wax Paper

Step 1:
Get a big hunk of peanut butter
on your butter knife and spread it all around
a pine cone ornament.

(Watch out- you're headed into the messy fun zone!)

Step 2:
Roll, slather, and smack some bird seed
on the peanut buttered pine cone.

**It's easier to do if you have spread the bird seed out onto a tray first**

(At this point, you just might need to test
the peanut butter- to make sure the birds
are going to like it!)

Step 3:
Put the finished Pine Cone Bird Feeder
onto a sheet a of wax paper,
and go back and make another one!
Step 4:
Hang the feeders in the bushes and trees...

and wait for your fine feathered friends to show up!

(Seriously, while I was hanging the feeders, the birds were circling high above- it was very much an Alfred Hitchcock moment.)

Side note:
You might want to rethink
hanging them in the bushes if you have dogs-
ours were bending the bush branches down
to get the ornaments for themselves!
